
Join us for a long weekend of music and history in Northern France! Based in the beautiful town of Arras, we’ll spend two days on the Somme – scene of one of the most destructive battles of the Great War and join us for a very special performance of The Men Who Marched Away.

WHAT’S INCLUDED
Provisional itinerary – excursions and activities may be subject to change
– 3 nights bed and breakfast at the Hotel de l’Univers in Arras.
– Lunch (Friday & Saturday) and dinner (Thursday-Friday-Saturday) – house drinks included with meals.
– Coach tour of the Somme battlefields, including Thiepval Memorial, Lochnagar Crater, Sunken Lane and Bécourt Cemetery.
– Visit and guided tour of both Canadian National Memorials at Vimy Ridge and Newfoundland Park.
– Private concert performance of The Men Who Marched Away from GreenMatthews.
– We’ll be joined for the trip by Great War historian David Allton, who’ll be leading the tours and will be on hand to answer any questions you might have.
WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED
– Drinks outside of mealtimes.
– Travel to and from Arras (we’re happy to advise but not to arrange)
– Holiday or travel insurance (please organise your own if required)
– City Tax €1.40 per night per person
– Parking at the hotel €10 per night. There only 12 parking spaces at the hotel, so this must be booked in advance with us as an extra cost.


GETTING TO ARRAS from the UK
DRIVING
Arras is around 90 minutes drive from Calais (ferry/Eurotunnel). The hotel charges €10 per night for parking. We can arrange parking for you but it must be booked in advance as there are limited spaces.
TRAIN
Eurostar sell return tickets to Arras from London St Pancras International, changing at Paris Gare du Nord.
It’s also possible to travel from London to Arras via Lille, but this involves changing stations (Lille Europe and Lille-Flandres) and a ten-minute walk between the two. Tickets for this route can be bought via Trainline.
In either case, the journey takes around four hours, depending on long you have to wait for your connection.
The hotel is about 15 minutes walk or a very short taxi ride from Arras railway station.
AIR
The nearest airport is Paris Charles De Gaulle. There are three direct trains a day to Arras, taking around 50 minutes.
